Hi all! We've been working on turning out the Valentine's Day orders as fast as we can. 

The most popular items have been:

As You Wish wood signs in small and large. We also have As You Wish available in an ornament/mini wall hanging size. 

Our new Forever heart and arrow sign. White has been the most popular color chosen. AND it's currently on sale!

We must've come up with something that speaks to many couples out there because our We Hate Everything Together line continues to be our most popular items. Available in magnet size, small and large. 

If you place an order with us over this weekend there we will ship it out on Monday (Friday & Saturday orders)  or Tuesday (Sunday orders). Just like love, there are no guarantees with receiving it in time for Valentine's Day. But there is a good chance and for an added fee we can overnight ship too!

2015 opened with a stream of custom work requests for us.  We recently created a custom "Happy Palentine's Day" sign for a customer.

Our customer throws an annual "Palentine's Day" party for her friends. Which is a totally awesome idea!

Custom Trade Show Display Pieces - Melanie Casey

Since our inception last May, we had a specific business plan about what products we wanted to provide. What we didn't plan on was the great opportunities we've had to manufacture customized items for fellow makers. 

Recently we had a request for a more elaborate display piece. Melanie Casey is fine jeweler  based in Boston Massachusetts. She is participating in the NYNow trade show later this month and needed some display signage for her booth display. 

Her logo is simple and quite elegant.  The feathered tail required fine laser work. 

Gorgeous detailing that suits her line. It was a fun project for us. As well as great discovery into a fellow maker's fine work.

Forever Or Whatever

Yesterday, we quietly listed a sign with a wider appeal than our "We Hate Everything Together" signs.

Like all things we do, it starts with a doodle.

My doodles are often crazy and more elaborate than they should be. This one wasn't too bad. As you can see there are some changes/development notes that occurred with this.  I was thinking of a classic and simple design. Something that could be multi purpose. Truth be told, I'm not a Valentine's Day girl. I'm also not a flowers and open the door for me girl. I'm a beer and ramen lady, hey it's hard to hate on someone who brings you food to eat. But I do like sweet little things like this. It could be for any day. After all it's appropriate to convey love for someone everyday.

 "Forever & Ever Babe" was my original wording. John then morphed into "Forever or Whatever", which we all found hilarious but we get enough "evil side eyeing" about our "We Hate Everything Together" stuff.  So we decided on "Forever".  We hope others will too. Not just the sign but after you've lived a bit and grown into yourself we hope you all find someone to fill your heart up for forever. Lovers, friends, puppies, whatever floats your boat.

We would like to thank our friends, family and awesome customers for making our first holiday season a busy one! This adventure only began about 6 months ago and we've worked hard on honing in on products that people like and services we can provide with our laser. We already have a huge list of new ideas for products and services that we will bring to fruition in the New Year. 

Thank you to all who have shared our postings and who have made purchases of our products. Thank you for supporting a small business ran by two silly people with a large family.

Crafty Wonderland - THIS WEEKEND!!!

Ack! I'm so excited!!! 6 by 6 Arts will be vending at Crafty Wonderland at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland Oregon this weekend!!!

This is our first out of state show! Seems appropriate since John originally hails from Oregon. 

We'll be in booth #193. Come see us if you are in the Portland area! We will be debuting a few new items as well as bringing our best sellers. 

We're looking forward to the show and hanging out in Portland in the evenings after the show. We will have at least one of our six kids with us. So we're looking for fun kid friendly suggestions for when we're there.  

We hope to see some familiar faces at the show!

Custom stuffs and 1980's note folding!

Hi there! We've been doing all sorts of fun things behind the scenes here.  For example some really awesome custom pieces.

I've also decided to get weird with packing invoices in packages. I hope someone gets a giggle out of my rad 1980's style. 

Sadly, I only amused myself. John was homeschooled and my kids are far too young to even understand the strategic art of note passing. 

Speaking of kids, our eldest boy turned 18th on December 5th. We now have two "adult" children. So surreal. Yet a step closer to empty nest status. AKA eating non kid friendly foods status. One can only eat so much pasta.  Well, you know... :D

Icosahedrons & Damn Fine Cup(s) Of Coffee

It's a little late in the game today. Which is actually the norm these days. I suffer from the exact opposite of SAD. Fall & Winter are my most creative times and I'm always full of energy. Poor John is constantly bombarded with random ideas blurted out at him.  One of the most recent blurts is this: 

Twin Peaks is one of my all time favorite TV shows. I'm thrilled that there will be a revival season in 2016.  One of my favorite quotes from the series is: "You know, this is - excuse me - a  damn fine cup of coffee...". When Special Agent Dale Cooper sits down for breakfast at The Great Northern. Whenever I come across a damn fine cup of coffee that scene rolls through my mind.

Additionally we added some icosahedrons (I LOVE saying icosahedrons!) to our 2014 ornament line. 

Geometric shapes are always in style are beautiful. And who says you have to limit your tree trimmings to Santa or snowman theme fair! It's your tree! You do whatever you want. :)

Gift Giving Bonanza: Small Business Supports Single Parents

It's that time of the year when we bust open our pocketbooks to buy our loved ones gifts. Everyone has tough times now and then. I've been a single mom before and I was raised by a single father. It can be quite the juggling act financially around the holidays.  

Rosalie of Ugly Baby Shower Art and I are launching a website today called Gift Giving Bonanza: Small Business Supports Single Parents. 

We are each doing giveaways of kid friendly items to single parents this holiday season and we are hoping to get a bunch of people to join us. This website: Gift Giving Bonanza is a list of all the small businesses that are hosting giveaways.

Recently we had the pleasure of being interviewed by Sign Craft Magazine. Sign Craft is a trade magazine for the sign maker's industry. We were quite surprised to receive the interview request. We've only been in business for a few months and we've only had a few requests for custom signs. However, lasers in the sign industry seems like a natural fit. 

Admittedly, I am tickled to know that our sign "We Hate Everything Together" was chosen for this article and sign shops across the US will see it. It's the little things. :)

A few months ago we had the pleasure with working with Christa Collins - lead singer of the new band Motobunny. She and I share a mutual friend that was kind of enough to spread the word of my new business adventure.  Christa wanted some large belt buckles with the band's name on it.  As well as ring name bars. John arranged some mirrored acrylic for the belts.

Winter Market at Redmond Town Center

We are currently gearing up for our very first maker's market! 

This weekend we will be vending at the Redmond Town Center in downtown Redmond, Washington.

We will be vendors there this weekend as well as November 15-16, 29-30 and December 21-22. With special guest appearances from a random mix of our children!  The RTC Winter Market is located kitty corner from Macy's.  RTC has a huge parking FREE parking garage and great eats located in the center. 

We will have our entire laser cut line available, including special holiday items:

Metal?

We get a lot of questions about what we can actually do with our laser in regards to materials.  A basic list of things we can cut and engrave are listed on our custom services page. One thing that is asked about often is metal. Can we cut metal? Unfortunately no, not with the type of laser we have. Can we engrave it? Absolutely!

For example, John has been engraving guitar petals for Retro Mechanical Labs for a couple of years now. 

We picked up these anodized aluminum travel cups at Costco yesterday to show what we can do with our laser on metal. (And to have on hand and fill up with tons of coffee in the upcoming holiday show season!) John tested out our header logo on it and they turned out great.

One of the biggest surprises we've had after buying our Epilog Laser, was being approached by a handful of our fellow artists to do packaging and business related items for their businesses.  Oddly, that wasn't a consideration with our original business plan. It's definitely been a really fun learning experience and something we really enjoy.

handmade. la conner is one of those companies. Now to start I will admit that I am a wee bit biased for the following reasons. Number 1: Robyn makes THE best lotion balls. Period. I love them they work really well. I'm like an unsolicited walking advertisement for them. She makes other really great items that I can praise too. But the lotion balls are my personal favorite.  Number 2: I had the great pleasure of being next to Robyn at her very first Urban Craft Uprising show with my other company. She was fresh and new on the scene. I was really impressed with her effort and attitude. It was no surprise to me to witness the great growth she's had. Number 3: Her brick and mortar store is in La Conner, Washington. I was born and raised on Northeast Whidbey Island. La Conner is just a hop skip and a jump away from there and it's absolutely beautiful. Robyn's shop compliments the beauty of the town. 

We recently created her new laser engraved business cards on 140 weight cardstock that is made in the USA.
